A MORNING STROLL
On a fateful morning in Vancouver, Benjamin took the family pup Dexter for a walk. As they ambled through the idyllic woods and rivers, Ben listened to a podcast by Suzanna Simard, a Professor of Forest Ecology at the University of British Columbia. In the podcast, she described how trees communicate with one another, using a surprisingly sophisticated underground network of fungi and roots to care for each other.
In fact, that network rather closely resembles the way the human neural network is organized. This closeness and relatability struck Ben like lightning, and just like that his way forward was clear.
